Improving the vertical leap is probably one of the most important aspects for basketball players. While there are many vertical jump programs (such as the Jump Manual by Jacob Hiller) who offer a complete training approach, there are also many other free ways to improve your vertical jump faster. In this article I will share with you 3 training tactics that can really help you to improve your vertical jump faster and safely. For some other tips you can also check this video.
All the best!

If you play basketball, and you want to jump higher than ever, you could increase your vertical leaping starting today. A lot of times, the one thing that separates the high performers from the rest is all the hard work they did to get there. What you have to do is just stay positive and make a commitment to do your best. Avoid letting negative thoughts and doubts from getting a hold in your mind.

As you read, you will discover three exceptional workouts that can help you improving your vertical leap faster. Let’s take a look at these workouts right now.

To do this the right way, focusing on your leg muscles is important. Your calf muscles must be targeted to get the highest jumps possible. Just before you leave the ground, it is your calf muscles that give you that last minute lift. So you need to have strong calves, obviously, and there are many ways to work on them. Even though exercising can help, there are other things that need to be done to build them up.

Vertical leap, CIMG6975—permanently scatterbrained (Flickr.com)

If you want to build your calf muscles up, calf raises really do the trick. They are perfect for building strength in these muscles. This workout is something you need to do with a full range of motion. If you do this properly, your calves will become stronger than ever.

You can break down the physics of jumping and then work on any one of three different areas or all three. Jumping involves power which means that there are some things that will have a definite effect on that power. It takes a certain level of power to get off the ground and increase the speed at which you jump.

This incorporates a quick muscle twitch response that you can actually train with some specific exercises. You also have to think about how strong your legs and each individual muscle groups are. You can work hard to improve the range with which you can exert your power. Increasing one area is nice but you’ll have more power if you increase all three areas.

Since your calf muscles are critical to high leaping ability, you should increase the range of movement in them. Stretching out your calf muscles is one way you can do this. Your calf muscles, and your Achilles tendons, need to be stretched regularly. This is on top of stretching your upper and lower torso as well.
Injuries will definitely occur if you combine stretching with any type of bouncing motion – so don’t do that! Stretching can be done by simply leaning up against the wall, while standing, and pushing back into the wall itself.

There is no need to exceed any comfort range when stretching. This can be detrimental to your calves and Achilles tendons at the same time. If you really want to learn how to jump high, as you can see, you must do quite a few things to improve your vertical leap. Most of the time you will be running and then jumping, and you have to convert your momentum into a vertical component. Work on training your body and mind to coordinate all your physical movements into one explosive jump.

By following these tips for several weeks you will be able to improve your vertical leap faster. Don’t give up and you will have the ability to have explosive vertical leap very soon!

Hey friends, How are you today?

In this post you can find some great advice on things you can do to improve at basketball shooting.

Enjoy!

_____

While basketball has many aspects, shooting is the core of the game. Shooting is actually a variety of skills, not just one, since you have to make shots from various angles in various situations. The best basketball players no they need to be able to effectively shoot from anywhere on the court. The following are some tips to help you improve your shooting skills.

Basketball shooting, Dia 167 Una y otra vez—Freddy The Boy (Flickr.com)

One of the most awkward things about shooting a basketball is that you are never in the same location more than one time. You must have the ability to shoot the ball from under the basket just as well as a long distance from the hoop. That’s why it’s important to practice at various angles and distances. It’s fine to practice free throws, for example. But, you do not want to limit yourself to a shot that everyone knows to expect.

You want to have the ability to shoot correctly from various areas that others would not expect. To be a well-rounded player, you should be comfortable making any kind of shot, no matter where you are on the court, as long as you’re within range.

Every player on the court has a particular shooting range, and you shouldn’t try to shoot outside of this range. While the shooting range can be increased with practice, it’s best to only shoot within your current range during the game. Your range is simply the area where you’re comfortable and make a high percentage of your shots. So taking shots from within your range should be your policy, though there will always be exceptions, as when you have the ball and the clock is running out. Some players like the thrill of making exceptional shots, but what you should really be aiming for is improving your natural (within range) shooting skills.

Hook shots are essential and helpful in a lot situations. They are extremely important for centers and forwards. You make a hook shot with the foot that is on the other side of the hand that you are going to shoot with. So you will pivot with your left foot, if you are shooting with your right hand. This is done while holding the ball palm-up. Then take off on the left foot, releasing the ball with an overhead arc in one smooth motion. This is a good shot to make if you’re being blocked by a taller opponent. This gets the ball way up in the air.

They are numerous versions of the hook shot. The execution will vary based on the situation. You will get better at making basketball shots if you concentrate on it and work on

Basketball shooting, Shooting hoops with a G12—xddorox (Flickr.com)

your form. The suggestions that we have talked about will be helpful when you practice and decide which things to work on. But, you also have to consider your own particular areas of need. If you can seem to get a particular move just right, do not shy away from it but work at making it better until you see it get better. Even the best players in the world cannot stop practicing and must continue to work on their shooting skills to continue moving on up.

There is no doubt that these things can help you to improve at basketball shooting. With that being said always remember that basketball shooting is just one aspect of the game and if you want to take your basketball game to the next level then you also need to work on several other factors, including your vertical jump. Take a look at my Jump Manual review if you are looking for a complete vertical jump program.

All the best!

Hope everything is fine… Many of you asked me for more tips how to choose the right basketball shoes, so this post will give you some advice on getting basketball shoes that will be the best for your needs. Leave your comments and let me know what you think.

_______

With hundreds of kinds to choose from, what criteria should you use when shopping for basketball shoes? You’ll have to take into account how often you play, what type of player you are and the way your feet are shaped. Aside from this, it’s always good to pick a pair of shoes that you like the looks of. Let’s go over some of the main points to consider when you want to find the perfect pair of basketball shoes.

You can’t really shop for basketball shoes before you set a budget for yourself, as they come with such a variety of price tags. Keep in mind that basketball shoes, even the best ones, have to be replaced regularly if you play all the time. So if your budget is limited, you may have to rule out the styles that are on the high end of the spectrum. It’s possible to find good basketball shoes for around forty dollars, but the prices go well into the hundreds. Basketball players should not play in bargain basement sneakers, though, as these are likely to be too flimsy.

They simply aren’t made for serious athletes. In some cases you can find quality brands at surprisingly affordable prices, especially if you shop around a little. You have to take into account how you play the game before you decide what kind of basketball shoes you want. The players who need the most cushioning and ankle support are the power players, whose feet take the most punishment.

Players who are smaller and fast, however, should get basketball shoes that enable them to be light on their feet. the basketball shoes that are low or medium cut are made for speed players. In between these two are all around players, whose shoes should be as lightweight as possible, while still providing ample support.

When you shop for a basketball shoe, you can care about what it looks like, but that’s not all you should look at. Athletic shoes are coveted by people who want to seem as thoug

Basketball shoes, Cons React RS-2—kikfoto (Flickr.com)

h they’re ‘ballin’, wearing the latest style that’s endorsed by their favorite player, and these shoes are well advertised to make sure everyone knows about them. But if you are serious about basketball, You should make your decision based on how comfortable the shoe is, how much support it offers, and how much durability if offers first ahead of anything else.

The trendiest brand of basketball shoes may or may not be suitable for your feet. Peer pressure is very powerful, and advertising campaigns can be very effective at making you want that shoe, but you should never base your decision on what someone else tells you what you should buy. Your choice should only be based on what shoe feels good and which one allows you to move at your best.

In closing, basketball shoes can help you remain light on your feet and you can do it for a longer period of time. Having shoes that don’t fit correctly or that aren’t made very well, or that are worn, are just making more susceptible to becoming injured. In this article we’ve been looking at some facts about basketball shoes that can help you find ones that are suitable.

The ideal shoe is going to feel good and it’s going to let you move how you want in order to play the game at your best.

OK guys, that’s it for today, if you have any questions you can always leave a comment. I really hope that this post on getting basketball shoes that will be the best for your needs was helpful for you.
See you next time!

Hey guys

Today I want to share with you more tips about supplements for basketball players and to give you some information that you must know about them.

_________

The topic of sports supplements can be a little confusing for many people, as there’s so much information on it and much of it is conflicting. Part of the problem is that many of the websites or articles telling you how great a particular supplement have been created by the people who are selling it. That doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t believe it, but you do have to use your judgment. The following three tips on choosing good sports supplements can help you to make the right choices in this area.

It’s normal for men in their forties and older to have decreasing levels of testosterone, and there are supplements to counteract this. There are various products, from vitamins and herbs to prescription drugs that can increase the body’s production of testosterone. You have to be careful in this area, as some products, especially injections, gels and DHEA can have serious side effects. Testosterone levels can be boosted in a safe manner provided you follow medical advice and don’t take more than you should. ZMA is one safe and natural testosterone supplement that studies have shown is effective.

In case you want to get an effective drug that’s often prescribed for this purpose, ask your doctor for OXO. Before taking this route, you should have your testosterone level medically checked to confirm whether you even need such a supplement.

People who are trying to lose weight can find sports supplements that help with this. There are lots of supplements that are designed to increase your body’s metabolism so you burn fat more easily. With this kind of supplement it’s a good idea to study the ingredient list and ensure you know what everything is safe to ingest. In general, it’s best to stick to all natural supplements that help you to lose weight safely.

Ephedra, for example, is a stimulant that’s been associated with some health problems and is still used in some weight loss formulas (where it’s legal). If you’re trying to lose weight, you have to increase your metabolism by diet and exercise and thermogenic fat burning sports supplements are designed to make this easier.

In the event you want to consume energy drinks as sports supplements, you have to choose them carefully. No matter what else is put into them, most energy drinks are too high in sugar to be good for you. You’re better off drinking plain water. There are, however, drinks that are true sports supplements and contain a variety of proteins, vitamins and other things that can help your workouts.

In limited quantities, caffeine can help your performance and this is in many energy drinks. Energy drinks that are natural and not sweetened will give you better long term energy without a sugar crash. Sports supplements, then, can be useful for many purposes, but you have to look at them carefully to find the ones that are in line with your objectives. You can spend many hours just browsing all the different products being sold, but the above tips can really help you identify the best ones for your purpose. Remember that no supplement is a replacement for exercising and eating well and for the best results a complete training program is a must.

If you are still looking for a training program to take your basketball game to the next level then you may want to take a look at my review on the jump manual.
I wish you the best!

Hey friends,

This post is another post in the series of tips about injuries. Hope you will like it and more important implement it…

_________

You may face a lot of physical and mental stress after sustaining a sports injury. Most of the healing process is up to you after the doctors put everything back in place. If you need to rest, take the time to do that. If you can safely exercise some part of your body, then do that because it will help your body and mind. Take this time that is the healing process and make the most of it.

Chronic pain and being sore are two different things so it’s important to be able to tell the difference. It may take some time to figure it out but soreness will usually peak and then improve. Don’t be in too big a hurry to make a doctor’s appointment since muscle soreness is usually temporary. A good time to call your doctor is if you’re sore for more than a week. Or, if the soreness or pain worsens and is present all the time, then that will be another big clue that you may have a chronic injury. Pay close attention to what your body is trying to tell you.

There are some parts of the body that are more disposed to injury, and chronic injuries run rampant in these areas. These type of injuries occur over many years, and therefore even though the damage is minimal, over time it can generate something very severe. If you suffer from any type of pain in your body, and if it is chronic, get it taken care of immediately so you can feel better.

It is actually easy to realize if you are injured if you are feeling the pain, even though what you are feeling may have taken years to develop. Taking care of your injuries by seeking medical advice is the best thing You Can Do because the damage is already there.

Even after an injury seems to have healed, it is important to still be careful for a good period of time. To put it simply, don’t overwork yourself. It is very easy to re-injure yourself if your body starts telling you to slow down or stop and rest. It’s not worth injuring yourself further which is why you must top exercising if you feel any pain. If you do feel pains in the injured areas you should consult your doctor.

It’s perfectly fine to continue exercising providing you’re given the all clear. If you feel anything happening in the injured area you should obey your body’s signals and rest. There have been many advances over time regarding treating sports injuries. But you still need to maintain a positive attitude to help yourself heal.

I hope that you have found this important information for basketball players who deal with injuries to be useful for you.
See you next time and until then have a great weekend!

Hi everyone

Many of you asked me to talk about supplements for basketball players so in this post I will give you some useful information about the most popular supplements for athletes, including basketball players.
Enjoy!

_________

365 301 Supplements and Weights and Shakes oh my—Noodles and Beef (Flickr.com)

There are so many different sports supplements for sale today that it can get confusing to know which ones to try. Some supplements are meant to give you energy, others to help you burn fat more efficiently and still others to help you build muscle. You not only want to take high quality supplements, but ones that are made with your own goals in mind. Choosing the sports supplements that will support your goals can be challenging, but we’ll be discussing some ways to sort it all out and find the right ones.

Some sports supplements are created for people who want to gain weight. Of course, a larger number of people want to lose weight, but this is by no means universal. Competitive bodybuilders, for example, frequently want to put on weight, in the form of muscle of course. Or you may be someone who’s naturally thin and want to put on some weight. If you want to gain muscle, though, you should still avoid junk foods and too many carbs, as this only adds fat to your body.

Weight gain can be accelerated with certain supplements, though you should also eat well and do resistance training at least a few times per week. You can find various products, such as protein powder and energy bars that can help you build muscle and gain weight. Make sure you read the ingredients and try to choose weight gain products that are safe and natural. If you’re going to take sports supplements, you have to go beyond reading the advertising or web page from the companies who sell these products. You want to be sure you understand exactly what you’re putting into your body and what its effects are likely to be.

Depending on your age, gender, fitness goals and body type, one supplement or another might be right for you. If you’re an athlete involved in sports that require endurance, for example, you should look into supplements that can increase your energy levels naturally. You can find a good supplement that makes it easier for you to either lose or gain weight, depending on what you want to accomplish.

One type of sports supplements that have gotten attention in recent years are fatty acids such as fish oils.

These promote heart health and control blood pressure as well as cholesterol making them great for athletes too. Omega type fats can be essential to a good exercise program. While fish oils are the best known of healthy fat supplements, you can also find other kinds, such as flaxseed oil, pumpkin seed oil and coconut oil. If you do choose to take a fish oil supplement, try to verify that it’s from fish from unpolluted areas, which can be hard to find nowadays.

You can improve your athletic performance as well as your heart health with these supplements for basketball and any other sport. In general, sports supplements can help you to get more out of your workouts or athletic endeavors, but you should be careful to take ones that are safe and designed for what you want to accomplish. The above principles should be kept in mind when you shop around and look at the various products being offered. Keep in mind that sports supplements are just that, supplements, and can’t replace a healthy diet and regular exercise.

If you really want to get much better results in your game you need to follow a complete exercises program combined with healthy diet plan. Check out my review on The Jump Manual if you still don’t have one.

I wish you the best!

Hey guys

In this post you will find general information about injuries in sports and several tips on how to avoid them.

_______

When dealing with a fitness injury, it can be difficult for everyone involved. The injured person is obviously the one who is responsible for doing the work and the quality of the recovery period. A support system of concerned family and close friends can be immensely helpful. If that kind of support is not available, then you can help yourself tremendously by learning as much as you can about coping mechanisms and approaches when injuries are involved.

While a doctor can provide helpful insights and additional resources, the work is ultimately on you. You can do a variety of things to help yourself. The following tips can help you figure out ways to help yourself.

If you should sustain a sports related injury, it is extremely important to become aware of your overall emotional and mental state. For professional and serious academic athletes especially, an injury can be a major setback.

Sport injury, Structure of a muscle from Complete Guide to Sport…—sportEX journals (Flickr.com)

The most precarious time after an injury is the early stages because that is when decisions regarding approach and attitude are made. It’s vital to a healthy and short recovery to do your best to avoid negative and self destructive behavior. This can include overeating, drinking, or in some cases, drug abuse. To have the smoothest recovery possible, you must take control over your mental outlook and your general attitude. Be careful about changes in your outlook, attitudes, and perspectives if you are severely limited in activity.

Evidently, there is a wide range of injuries that can come about. If your injury initiates you having to be immobile or bed-ridden, then become really conscious of your feelings. The danger with this type of injury and inactivity is it can produce overwhelming feelings of loss of control in life. That is one area that is very crucial for a person’s happiness. It is essential that you have some feeling of a type of measurement of control. The feeling that you have lost all, or most, of the control in your life can lead to depression and other serious conditions.

Shortly after the initial injury, set some recovery goals. Having goals and milestones is a good way to keep track of your progress and they also help give you peace of mind.

When you set your goals you are being proactive and taking control of your situation. Meeting your goals can help motivate you on your road to recovery and returning to activity. You can ensure that you’ve set reasonable goals by enlisting the help of your doctor. Because your doctor knows exactly what needs to be done, they are the best person to help you with this. Naturally, we each have our own psychological characters, so the extent of an individual’s ability for managing a fitness injury in sports will fluctuate. Then again, it is more than feasible for you or anyone to figure out what method to use for dealing with it better. Facts and learning can go a long way.

I hope that this post on injuries in sports and how to avoid them was helpful for you.
Have a great week guys!

Hey buddy,

In this post I will share few tips on how to cope with injuries in any sport and especially basketball.
Check it out and learn what you need to do and what you need to avoid.

________

Basketball injury, Basketball Accident—OakleyOriginals (Flickr.com)

As an athlete there’s nothing worse than having an injury from sports. It’s a pain when you have multiple injuries coming from just one area, so you’ll be lucky to just have one injury. My knee was injured rather badly which meant I had to give up my favorite sport of running, so I know how it feels.

Being injured isn’t nice but in these times we have medicines that can help you to recover quickly and efficiently. One area that’s always overlooked is your psychological health, and it’s a very important area that needs looking after. Hopefully you’ll never have an injury, but just in case you do we’ll be talking about how to deal with them below.

There are many reasons why foot injuries are one of the worst injuries, one reason is because the time it takes to heal is very long. Some of the most common are bruises to the heel, stress fractures and ligament strains. There’s also the common injury of a sprained or twisted ankle, that usually takes many years to heal. Make sure you don’t use your injured foot if you have a foot injury.

Your feet take all of your weight which is why it’s so important to not antagonize it further. It’s easy to fall for the temptation of wanting to see how your foot is doing by testing it. By doing this you will most likely antagonize your injury further, meaning it’ll take longer to heal.

One of the most positive approaches to dealing effectively with a sports injury is doing cross training. It is not just about helping you physically, but it can also be beneficial for your mental state. It is always best to consult a medical doctor prior to any type of additional physical activity. If you don’t want to cross train, don’t force yourself to. Doing this will allow you to continue to exercise because you will not be exercising a part of your body that is hurt. Lifting small weights, or a brisk walk, especially if you have injured a major muscle, would be perfect for your particular condition. Your doctor can definitely alert you to the exercise you should be doing.

While you’re resting from your injury, need to make a list of things you need to get done. Start thinking about what you would like to do and get it done while you are getting better. Your first agenda should be writing down what you can do on a daily basis. All of the things you never had time for, you need to write them down and figure out when to do them. These activities can be anything involving entertainment, exercise if possible, books to read literally anything. What you want to do is keep yourself busy and your mind off the injury. This list will be accomplished utilizing the same level of focus and resolve that you have always had playing sports.

The most common sports induced injuries are fractures, dislocations, problems with the Achilles tendon and muscle swelling. Accepting your injury happened and letting your body heal is the best way of coping with a non-debilitating injury. You should avoid getting stressed out about the obvious as it won’t help.

I hope that this post on how to cope with injuries in basketball will help you to avoid injuries in the future.

There is always that question – “what more can I do to increase my vertical leap?“. You put in hours and hours of training, but somehow you feel that your body doesn’t seem to reach its full potential. Although repetition is the mother of learning, the truth is, most of the time athletes go up a blind alley by overworking during practice and they do not actually get the results that they strive for.

If you are one those people who are looking for tips to increase your vertical jump then listed below are several tips that can help you:

Know what causes you to jump high

The first thing you need to do when taking on a task such as increasing your vertical jump is to know better what causes you to jump high. The short answer to this is force. The more force you can apply to the ground the higher you will be able to jump sooner. But how can you go about applying more force to the ground?

Assess Your Current Strength

To begin increasing the vertical jump, first assess your current strength. Create a novel strength foundation upon which to build up. This should be completely free from any experience you may had previously with the different training types.

Flexibility

Flexibility is necessary in every sport including basketball. With it you will be able to maximize your potential and also to reduce the chances of an injury. You should start stretching at least 5 times every week. You should also warm up before stretching to avoid possible injuries.

Strength and Quickness

Your main aim should be develop strength and quickness which will lead to explosive vertical jump.

Strength training exercises like squats, deadlifts, and back extensions are also effective in helping you jump higher. Always start your training with light weights before progressively moving on to heavier weights.

Arms

You should be certain that you sway your arms. This provides you with momentum while your arms go up into the air. Begin with arms straight out. While you squat down in order to

Vertical leap, CIMG6976—permanently scatterbrained (Flickr.com)

jump, sway your arms downward. Then, as you shoot to the air, sway your arms upwards as high as you’re capable of.

Knee Jumps

Stand straight facing forward with your legs shoulder length apart; Very slowly bend your knees bringing your bottom to the ground then jump straight up in the air keeping your knees bent (try not to move out of the original position); repeat this exercises as many as you can do.

Healthy diet

A stable, healthy diet with a dose of supplements aided by dedicated workouts is the best recipe to flaunt a body like Kobe’s. Cardio exercises like walking, running, swimming and a game of basketball are his favorite warm up exercises. This is what provides him with that almost perfect body along with the stamina and endurance to play top flight basketball.
I hope that these tips will help you to answer the question:“what more can I do to increase my vertical leap?”

Hey guys,

In this post are some tips to improve the vertical jump. Most of these are for beginners but I’m sure that some people who already following a vertical jump program will also find them to be useful.

_______

There are a lot of things that you can do in order to jump higher, and too many of them need nearly the same sort of work. Follow these tips to jump higher at times when they relate to your exercise.

Be certain that you carefully read all the instructions so that you will achieve the best results from your exercise. Every little thing matters when it comes to improving your vertical leap so don’t forget to do things right!

Your Diet

Your muscles need the energy to be able to perform at their peak level. The best way to get this energy fast is to eat healthy carbs. I stress HEALTHY carbs.

The best carbs to eat are usually whole grains. Stay away from white bread and other thing that contain starchy carbs. Eat only one gram of protein for one pound of your body weight. This will give you long lasting energy and also allow your muscles to repair themselves faster after a workout.

Warming Stretching Exercises

Before and after any exercises ensure to do stretching or warm up exercises. This thing will ensure that endurance training will not lead to serious injuries.

Plyometric exercises

Plyometric exercises like ankle bounces, jump rope and jump squats are very helpful to increase your vertical leap so don’t forget to do them.

Basketball jump, Jump—afroboof (Flickr.com)

The mental side is important

Along with physical training, mental boost too holds prime importance. Try to close your eyes and visualize your body going upwards and jumping high. Believe in your capacities and regularly say to yourself- ‘Yes, I can do it and I will do it soon’.

Weight training sessions

This session includes various activities like crunches, bench press, pull downs and incline press. This kind of exercises is a part of his routine for the first half of the week. The rest of the week other exercises like the dumbbell press, calf training, curls, squats and triceps press constitute his routine. Being a basketball player, a good jump is very essential. Workouts like rim high jumps, sprints and plyometrix exercises are performed to achieve this.

Use your entire body

Another factor that undoubtedly works on increasing your explosiveness is the usage of the entire body.

What this really means is that you have to be aware of the full range of movements that your body should perform during a vertical jump. It’s not just the upper body that directs and stretches itself upwards, but also your lower back, your knees and feet work on increasing your agility by depleting the energy stored in the joints and your muscles. This does takes practice, indeed, but putting your body in a line to perform the vertical should come as natural after a short time.

Squats

Stand straight facing forward with your legs shoulder length apart; Very slowly bend your knees bringing your bottom to the ground; go down as low as you can; hold that exact position for as long as you can then rise back up again; repeat this as many as you can do.

Rest

I know you’ve probably heard this many times, but proper rest is extremely key in any type of training and just as important as the workout. Many athletes make the mistake of not resting enough time and are not only risking their own body of injury but wasting their precious time and effort. So make sure you rest a minimum of three days each and every week.

These tips are just the basics but they are extremely important. If you want to take your vertical jump to the next level then you must follow a complete training program. Take care and all the best!
